Kind of busy

I have been busy successfully recuperating from my nasty surgery and haven’t been anywhere near my computer for quite a while. But I have gotten the green light from my doctor to go ahead and start doing normal activities, and right now this is a normal activity in my part of the world…

I live in a desert area that is experiencing a significant flood (oh the irony!). And my dear friend, Denise, just happens to live by a river that is flooding. We have been vacuuming water out of her basement for almost a week already, but yesterday we got the word that the river will be exceeding the levels of the last big flood in 1999 and getting close to the levels of the really big 1972 flood. So it was only normal to get a load of sand, bags, shovels and wonderful helpers to fill sand bags…

Since I can’t lift heavy sand bags yet (doctors orders) I lovingly volunteered my daughters…

The engineer types organized a plan of action, strategically placing the heavy sandbags on a plastic sheet that would later be folded up against the sandbag dike…

There were no shortage of volunteers, people kept showing up as the dike building progressed…

And before you know it, Denise’s house was protected with a wonderful sandbag wall…

And at the end of the day we were enjoying a lovely sunset with the even lovelier sound of the sump pump hose discharging water back into the river and out of Denise’s yard…

And now I am going to bed as I was up all night with Denise so we could vacuum water out of her basement every 1/2 hour, get a good looking strong neighbor to help move a carpet roll out of certain peril after midnight, go to Timmies at 3 a.m., keep each other awake until the fabulous replacement day crew arrived (Denise’s brother-in-law). I’ll be back later with updates and more pics!
